Biolyst Scientific Closing Montgomery County Site

Biolyst Scientific closing Montgomery County site

Biolyst Scientific plans to lay off 76 employees and close its Hatfield facility early next year. The company will shift its headquarters to Berks County, which drives the restructuring.

According to a filing with Pennsylvania’s Department of Labor and Industry, the job cuts will start Jan. 1 and end Jan. 26. Some employees will receive offers to transfer to Biolyst’s Morgantown location. The Hatfield site sits at 1560 Industry Road.

Company representatives did not return requests for comment. As a result, the number of employees still with Biolyst remains unclear.

Biolyst Scientific formed in July 2024 after Electron Microscopy Sciences in Hatfield merged with Azer Scientific in Morgantown. After the merger, the combined company continued operating both sites.

The company chose the name “Biolyst” to reflect its mission. “Bio” represents its focus on advancing life sciences, while “lyst” highlights its goal to act as a catalyst for scientific breakthroughs.

Leadership also changed earlier this year. In April, the company appointed Jay Hexamer as CEO. He replaced Jim Mish, who had served as acting CEO.
